KPE Episode 277: "How the Kumara came to Aotearoa"

"How the Kumara came to Aotearoa" by Bea Hamer tells how Ruakapanga sent kumara across the sea from Hawaiiki and why he later sent pests to destroy them.
This book, which Cruz and Joe have chosen to podcast, is a retelling of a Maori legend based on a version of the story by Pine Taiapa. . You can see an excerpt of that below.

  21. I am a student at the University of South Alabam in the U.S.A. This is one of the most interesting stories I've listened to so far. I love the moral of the story. You should always be thankful for what you have because there are always others who may not have any. Also, when someone older and wiser gives you instructions it is for your own good that you do as they say even if you don't want to. How does Kumara grow? I have never seen it before. What does it taste like? You have made me very curious about it. Great job.
