At his new school in his new town, Richard finds it impossible to make friends.  Both his sisters seem to have no trouble at all.  He is lonely, bored and very homesick when a group of boys take him under their wings.  Unfortunately for them, when they try to bully Richard they find he is not going to become a another of their victims.  Richard sets out to orchestrate ‘the revenge of the newcomers’ – and there is no shortage of willing accomplices.

KPE Episode 312: "The Time Machine"

 

Joe from Room 17 has been reading "The Time Machine" by HG Wells and Joshua is his DJ for this podcast. This classic novella was published way back in 1895 and was the first book to use the idea of a machine to travel way into the future. 

A group of men, including the narrator, is listening to the Time Traveller discuss his theory that time is the fourth dimension. The Time Traveller produces a miniature time machine and makes it disappear into thin air. The next week, the guests return, to find their host stumble in, looking dishevelled and tired. They sit down after dinner, and the Time Traveller begins his story about where he has been. Way into the future and the year 802,701 AD!

 

KPE Episode 290: "Evil Fred"

 "Evil Fred" by Kylie Begg is Unaloto's first podcast and he has worked with Joe from Room 17 to present this book as a podcast. We know you will also enjoy the animation Unaloto created to illustrate a part of the story they don't get time to talk about.
This book is very popular with Pt England students and we are sure you will enjoy the way these two Year 6 boys discuss the book.  It involves a very evil family, the Rancids, and the way they try to corrupt a very cute dog.  Let them know what you think of their podcast...

KPE Episode 277: "How the Kumara came to Aotearoa"

"How the Kumara came to Aotearoa" by Bea Hamer tells how Ruakapanga sent kumara across the sea from Hawaiiki and why he later sent pests to destroy them.

This book, which Cruz and Joe have chosen to podcast, is a retelling of a Maori legend based on a version of the story by Pine Taiapa. . You can see an excerpt of that below.
