KPE 215: "Fern of Maru Bay"

"Fern of Maru Bay" by Lindy Kelly
The KPE podcasters have brought you all kinds of unusual stories written for kids by New Zealand authors and Sela and Paulitia from Room 18 have found another one!
This book is about a girl who has had a pretty alternative upbringing; she was home-schooled for a start, she lives on an island, her parents are arrested for breaking the law and she can talk to animals. Quite a strange mixture! Have a listen and tell us what you think - especially if you have read this book yourself!
Oh, and don't forget that if you click on either of the girls' names you will be directed to their own blogs and you will be able to read some of their other thoughts from this year...

  3. Hi Sela and Paulitia

I visited your school last week as part of the Apple Bus tour and was really impressed by the work you are all doing using ICT. I enjoyed listening to your review of 'Fern of Marn Bay'. I love reading and it sounds like you both do too!
I also loved all the artwork you have around your school. Some classes were about to go on camp later that day -I hope they all had an awesome time.
Thanks for having us -we all were inspired by the things you are learning to do!

  6. Yes it does sound like a good read Sela! You both have made another wonderful podcast.

I loved listening to your interview as it gave a clear idea of what this story is about! There definately is a lot happening in this story!

You've done such a good job with this podcast that I am now very keen to get my hands on this book.

Maybe we could work together soon a and make a podcast together. I think you would enjoy some the books I've read.

Keep up the good work girls.

  7. Well done Sela and Paulitia
You chose a challenging book for this podcast and gave us a very good review of it. I think you should read it again when you are older - maybe in Year 8 or something - and come back to this blog post and tell us what you think about it then. I would be very interested to hear your opinion in a couple of years time too. I wonder if it would change?
    Keep up the excellent work
