Episode 422: Horeta and The Waka

Wyatt and Jacob are both year 6 in room 17 review a beautiful story "Horeta and The Waka" By Gordon Campbell, illustrated by Zak Waipara.






"Based on the true story of a Maori tribe's first meeting with Captain James Cook and his crew, as seen through the eyes of the boy Te Horeta."




Horeta is the first to see a very large waka (sailing ship) heading for their land. The 'Strange men' bring many new  pieces of equipment and a completely different variety of food, such as rifles,nails and beef jerky!

KPE Episode 421: The Working Holiday

In this episode Cheyanne and Doris from room 17 review The Working Holiday by Dot Meharry.



Mitch,Emma and Jack are off to their grandparents farm for the holidays. Unfortunately it's not what they expected, they have to go to bed early and wake up even earlier everyday! Which is not what they want to be doing on their holidays. On the upside they wake up to a beautifully cooked breakfast. After a while they got use to the routine and started to enjoy themselves.

KPE Episode 420: The Twits

In this episode Gloria and Tyla-Marie are both year 6 from room 17 have been talking about "The Twits" by Roald Dahl and illustrated by Quentin Blake

In a big windowless house lives two awful characters Mr and Mrs Twit. Mr Twit has a hideous beard that he never brushes and Mrs Twit has a scary looking glass eye.
They are very cruel towards animals especially birds, luring them to make bird pie. 
They also enjoy harassing their pet monkeys, Muggle-wump and his family.
But when your as mean as Mr and Mrs Twit something will always come back to bite you...














The Twits is another great book written by Roald Dahl that Tyla and Gloria have done an excellent review on, take a listen!

KPE Episode 419: Going Bananas

In this episode Howard and Antonio from Room 17 review Going Bananas by Bill Nagelkerke.                                                                                    
                                                                                                   
Reuben isn't the biggest fan of his little brother Matt, in fact he finds him really annoying and feels that he ruins everything.
Their father suggests that they go to the mall to buy some bananas. Reuben's father is trusting him to look after his younger brother but as soon as he gets the chance, Reuben ditches Matt and tells him to get lost.
Matt suddenly goes missing in the mall and he is no where to be found!
Will Reuben find his little brother...

KPE Episode 418: EJ12 In the dark


Ashleigh and Jarna are both in Year 8 at Pt England School and they are in Room 20.  They have been reading "EJ12 In the dark by Susannah McFarlane, which is one of the books from a great series.










Shine's Solar energy system has become under threat from an evil agency called Shadow.
 In order for Shadow to be stopped special agent EJ12 must overcome her fears and must decipher Shadows code otherwise they will turn out the lights on Shine's network, and the Shine network will come to an end...
